the only edition of a rare epic poem extolling the deeds of Britains naval and military forces during the Seven Years War, including their actions in North America and India. a scarce book, with the last copy to appear at auction fetching US $1000, back in 2004.
James Ogden was a Manchester born poet, schoolmaster, and shearer who produced a number of narrative poems during the second half of the 18th century, of which “The British Lion Rous’d” was the first
1st edition. pp[xxii] 223.
lacks half-title and front free end-paper, otherwise complete in a rather worn contemporary half sheep binding. joints weak but holding. vertical tear in the margin of first page of subscribers’ list, without loss. crude sewn repair to Bb4 (see image).
