embellished with eight full Coloured, engraved views of shipping, by W. Knell, besides fourteen coloured illustrations of the Flags, Pendants, and Ensigns,as worn by Her Majesty’s Ships and Vessels in Commission
by Lieutenant Lawford Miles.
London, Ackermann & Company, 1841.
8vo. ppxiv 184. 8 colour lithographs and 14 hand-coloured illustrations within the text.
in the original gilt decorated cloth boards and red roan leather spine. slight wear and damage to the spine. upper hinge pulling and stitching a little weak elsewhere through the book. but overall a good clean and bright copy with only occasional very light foxing, and this mostly to the protective paper guards over the plates.
although most notable for the eight fine lithograph plates by Knell, the book also provides a concise history of the Royal Navy and was intended to offer a “concise, yet comprehensive view of each and every department of the Royal Naval Service of England”
