giving a genuine account of the several islands and settlements of Madeira, the Canaries, Cape de Verde, Sierraleon, Sesthos, Cape Apollonia, Cabo Corso, and others on the Guinea shore;  likewise Barbadoes, Jamaica, etc. in the West Indies.  describing the colour, diet, languages, habits, manners, customs, and religions of the respective natives and inhabitants.  with remarks on the Gold, Ivory, and Slave trades; and on the winds, tides and currents of the several coasts.

a little marking, though generally a good clean copy, but with the title-page in facsimile

the title-page is from the second edition of 1737, but in fact there is no difference between the first and second editions, the latter being a straight re-issue

in an 18th-century full calf binding, a bit worn and rubbed; the joints weak, but holding

John Atkins, ‘Gent. of Plaistow, in Essex’ was a surgeon in the Royal Navy
