  • Description

a good copy in the original boards, of Phillips’ seminal history of Inland Navigation

London, printed for B.Crosby and Co., 1805

ppxix 598 + errata / advert leaf. one folding plate as called for. some foxing and browning, but a good unsophisticated copy in the original grey boards, worn but sound, with some paper loss to the spine.

first published in 1792 in a quarto format, this is the second octavo edition and the final edition of the work. There is I believe very little difference between this and the preceding, 4th edition, in which although ‘much of the more unimportant part of the larger work’ was omitted, there were many considerable additions and improvements made, and it was in the author’s opinion “…as useful, and in some respects even superior to the original publication.”
