folio [39x29cm]. quite heavy foxing to title-page and final few leaves, otherwise internally clean and fresh, with some light foxing to the plate surrounds, ironically emanating from the tissue guards inserted to protect the plates.
in the original red buckram gilt and leather spine. the spine leather is rubbed with some wear to top and foot, but the gilt lettering is still nice and bright. small tear to the outer edge of the front end-paper.
a re-issue of the 1849 work, with additional illustrations.
the colour lithographs of the original edition have been replaced by very crisp black & white plates reproduced in the new process of photo-engraving by the famous Glasgow photography firm of Messrs. Annan
number 6 of a limited edition of 300 copies.
